The Base vs. The Pro vs. The Flagship — Which Package Is Right for You?

One of the most common questions we get before an estimate is: "Which package should I get?" It's a fair question — and the answer matters more than most people realize, because not all epoxy systems are built the same.

A lot of contractors will quote you what we call "The Base" and leave it at that. We built The Pro and The Flagship because we believe North Texas homeowners deserve to know what's actually possible — and what separates a floor that lasts from one that just looks good on install day.

Here's the full breakdown, layer by layer.

What Every Package Starts With

Regardless of which system you choose, every install The Diamond Crew does begins with the same non-negotiable prep work:

The differences start with what goes on the concrete — and that's where the systems diverge significantly.

The Base Package — Starting at $6/sqft

Who it's for: Budget-conscious installs, rentals, large utilitarian spaces

The Base is the standard epoxy flooring system — the same floor you'll get from most contractors in North Texas. It's a solid, functional coating and a massive upgrade over bare concrete. But it's important to understand what it is and what it isn't.

The Base system:

The epoxy base coat bonds to the concrete and gives the flake something to embed in. The single polyaspartic topcoat seals everything and provides UV stability and chemical resistance. It's a clean, good-looking floor that holds up to everyday garage use.

What you're not getting: No moisture vapor barrier, and an epoxy base coat rather than the more advanced polyurea or polyaspartic chemistry you'll find in our upper tiers. For most utility spaces — workshops, storage garages, rental properties — The Base is perfectly appropriate. For North Texas homes where you're spending money on a floor you plan to live with for years, most clients move up.

The Pro Package — Our Most Popular

Who it's for: Residential garages, home gyms, hobby spaces, most homeowners

The Pro is where we start to pull away from what the competition offers. The jump from Base to Pro isn't just an extra coat — it's a fundamentally better system at every layer.

The Pro system:

The MVB primer is the big addition here — and it matters enormously in North Texas. Our clay-heavy soil holds moisture that constantly tries to push up through concrete slabs. Without a vapor barrier, that hydrostatic pressure eventually wins: the coating lifts, bubbles form, and the floor delaminates from the underside out. The MVB primer blocks that moisture pathway entirely.

The polyurea base coat is a step up from standard epoxy chemistry. Polyurea cures faster, bonds stronger, and is significantly more flexible than epoxy — which means it moves with the concrete as it expands and contracts through Texas temperature swings rather than cracking away from it.

The Pro is what most of our residential clients choose, and it's the system we'd put in our own garages. If you're on the fence between Base and Pro, the MVB primer alone is worth the difference in this climate.

The Flagship — The Best Floor We Build

Who it's for: Show garages, premium homes, clients who want the absolute best

The Flagship takes everything in The Pro and upgrades the base coat chemistry to the highest-performing coating available: polyaspartic. The result is a fully polyaspartic system from primer to finish — the same coating used in commercial showrooms and high-end automotive facilities.

The Flagship system:

Replacing the polyurea base with a polyaspartic base coat means every layer of the system is the same high-performance chemistry — chemically compatible throughout, which improves intercoat adhesion and overall system integrity.

The second topcoat adds depth to the finish, increases abrasion resistance, and gives the floor a gloss that holds up under the harshest conditions. Two polyaspartic topcoats over a polyaspartic base is the floor you can park hot cars on, drop tools on, and clean with aggressive chemicals for 10+ years and still have it looking like new.

If you're building a dream garage, doing a high-end home renovation, or just want to know you got the best floor that exists — this is it.

How to Pick: Three Quick Questions

1. How long are you staying in the house? If this is a forever home or a property you're investing in seriously, The Pro or Flagship pays for itself in longevity. The Base is appropriate for spaces where you're not planning to be long-term.

2. Is moisture a concern? In North Texas, it almost always is. Our clay soil and humidity mean moisture vapor pressure is a real factor for most slabs. If you want peace of mind, The Pro and Flagship both include the MVB primer. The Base does not.

3. Is this a showpiece or a working space? Working garages where cars drip oil and tools hit the floor → The Pro is plenty. Show garages, finished basements, and spaces where the floor is part of the aesthetic → The Flagship gives you something that stops people in their tracks.

The Bottom Line

The Base is a good floor. The Pro is a better system. The Flagship is the best floor we know how to build.

Most of our clients, once they understand the difference, choose The Pro. The MVB primer alone is worth it for a North Texas slab. And the ones who step up to The Flagship rarely have any regrets — you can't unknow what a fully polyaspartic floor feels like to walk on.

We'll give you our honest recommendation at your free estimate. We're not here to upsell you to something you don't need — but we will make sure you're making an informed decision.
